Netflix has recently unveiled the teaser trailer for Season 3 of the popular political thriller series, “The Diplomat,” scheduled to premiere on the streaming service this fall.
The upcoming season continues the story from where Season 2 left off, with Kate Wyler (played by Keri Russell), the U.S. ambassador to the U.K., uncovering Vice President Grace Penn’s (portrayed by Allison Janney) involvement in the attack on a British warship. The season finale took a shocking turn when U.S. President Rayburn passed away after Wyler’s husband Hal (played by Rufus Sewell) revealed Penn’s role in the attack, leading to Penn assuming the presidency.
According to the official synopsis, Season 3 will delve into Kate accusing Penn of orchestrating a terrorist plot and confessing her desire for the vice presidency. With the president no longer alive and Hal potentially implicated in his death, Penn is now the leader of the nation. Despite the chaos, Hal remains steadfast in his efforts to secure the vice presidency for Kate. As Kate navigates her new role, she finds herself in unexpected situations, forging complex relationships with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (played by David Gyasi) and First Gentleman Todd Penn (portrayed by Bradley Whitford).
Joining the returning cast members such as Russell, Sewell, Gyasi, Janney, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh, Bradley Whitford joins the series as Todd Penn, the husband of President Grace Penn. Additionally, new cast members include Celia Imrie, Michael McKean, Nana Mensah, and Miguel Sandoval.
“The Diplomat” was created by Debora Cahn and is executive produced by Janice Williams, Keri Russell, Alex Graves, Peter Noah, and Eli Attie.
