The Oklahoma pediatrician accused of drowning her 4-year-old daughter in Florida was found hiding in a laundry room when law enforcement raided her home earlier this month. The dramatic body camera footage released by the Oklahoma City Police Department shows officers and US Marshals agents demanding Neha Gupta to surrender, but she refused to open the door, leading them to break it down.
After entering the home, officers searched for Gupta and found her tucked away in the dark corner of the laundry room. They quickly apprehended her and led her out of the house. This arrest came after Gupta allegedly killed her daughter, Aria Talathi, while on vacation in Miami. Gupta called 911 to report an accidental drowning, but an autopsy revealed that the child had injuries suggesting she died from “asphyxiation by smothering” before being placed in the pool.
Miami homicide detectives obtained a warrant for Gupta’s arrest, and with the help of Oklahoma City Police Department’s Homicide Unit and US Marshals, she was located and apprehended in Oklahoma. She was extradited back to Florida, where she is currently being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Gupta is facing first-degree murder charges and is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment hearing on August 7.
Prior to the tragic incident, Gupta was fired from her job at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital and was in a custody battle with her ex-husband, which ended in divorce in 2024. Despite her request for sole custody being denied by the court, the events leading up to the death of her daughter remain a shocking and heartbreaking tragedy.
