Destiny 2’s upcoming Renegades expansion is set to introduce a new weapon sub-family, along with two new archetypes that will change the game’s dynamics. In the recent gear trailer for the expansion, a heating-up mechanic was showcased, hinting at exciting changes in the gameplay experience. However, this mechanic was not just a tweak to existing archetypes but was specifically designed for a brand new set of gear pieces.
In a blog post on November 6, Bungie unveiled the new Heat Weapons subfamily, featuring Dynamic and Balanced archetypes under these weapons. This article aims to provide a comprehensive list of the weapons and how they will function in the Renegades expansion.
The new Heat weapons in Destiny 2 will differ from traditional weapons as they will lack magazines and can be manually controlled by the player for a shorter vent animation. Overheating the weapon will lead to a more sustained vent, introducing new stats such as Heat Generated, Cooling Efficiency, and Vent Speed.
Under the Heat Generated sub-family, two new archetypes will be introduced – Dynamic and Balanced. Here’s a breakdown of what each archetype offers:
- Dynamic: This archetype boasts higher base damage, generates more heat, and cools faster between shots.
- Balanced: With very low heat generation, this archetype allows for manually venting at high heat to greatly increase vent speed.
It’s worth noting that any weapon in this sub-family that holds Primary ammo will deal increased damage to powerful combatants, including mini-bosses, Champions, and Elites.

- Modified B-7 Pistol Hand Cannon, Stasis, Dynamic archetype.
- All or Nothing Pulse Rifle, Strand, Dynamic archetype.
- M-17 “Fast Talker” Submachine Gun, Stasis, Balanced archetype.
- Compact Defender, Sidearm, Void, Dynamic archetype.
- Uncivil Discourse Special Hand Cannon, Arc, Dynamic archetype.
- Refurbished A499 Heavy Sniper Rifle, Kinetic.
- Praxic Blade Special Sword, Kinetic, Exotic weapon.
- Heirloom, Special Crossbow, Solar, Exotic weapon.
