Nick Shirley, a right-wing YouTuber, has recently come forward claiming that he has been receiving death threats following his video exposing alleged fraud in Somali daycare centers in Minnesota. In a video posted on December 26, Shirley and a group of individuals visited several daycare centers in Minnesota, where he alleged that these centers were involved in fraudulent activities, using taxpayers’ money.

During a recent appearance on the PBD Podcast, Shirley revealed that he and his family have been targeted with threats, with people even contacting his sister. He expressed his frustration at being painted as a villain for exposing fraud and emphasized that he did not make the issue political but simply aimed to shed light on the alleged wrongdoing.

Despite facing accusations of racism, Shirley maintained that his intentions were solely to uncover fraud and address the rising cost of living in the US. His video has sparked investigations into the daycare facilities, predominantly operated by Somali individuals. While CBS reported that they found no evidence of fraud, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has frozen child care payments to Minnesota in response to Shirley’s claims.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), HHS Deputy Secretary Jim O’Neill announced the freeze on payments, citing serious allegations of taxpayer money being funneled to fraudulent daycare centers in Minnesota. O’Neill commended Shirley’s work and pledged to conduct a comprehensive audit of the centers, including attendance records, licenses, complaints, investigations, and inspections. HHS is also launching a fraud-reporting hotline and will require evidence and justification for ACF payments before releasing funds.

The controversy surrounding Shirley’s video has led to heightened security measures, with fellow YouTuber Brandon Tatum arranging for Shirley’s protection. The response to Shirley’s video underscores the importance of accountability and transparency in the use of public funds, as well as the need to protect individuals who speak out against alleged wrongdoing.
