Nicola Coughlan, known for her roles in “Bridgerton” and “Derry Girls,” was honored with the Commitment Prize by Konbini at Canneseries this Monday. The Irish actor not only discussed her career during the masterclass but also voiced her support for important causes such as abortion rights, trans rights, and the situation in Palestine.

When asked about speaking out in support of Palestine, Coughlan emphasized the importance of standing up against injustice. She shared her personal connection to the region, citing her father’s service in the Irish Army and her family’s time in Jerusalem and Syria in the 70s. She stressed that the killing of innocent people is never justified, regardless of the circumstances.

The actor highlighted the historical connection between Ireland and Palestine, noting that both countries share common struggles and ideals. She expressed her willingness to speak out on any issue where innocent lives are at stake, not just in Palestine.

Coughlan also addressed her support for trans and queer rights, particularly in light of a recent UK Supreme Court ruling. She criticized the ruling, which could restrict the rights of trans women, and emphasized the importance of supporting marginalized communities.

In addition to her advocacy work, Coughlan discussed her upcoming projects, including her BAFTA-nominated role in “Big Mood.” She expressed excitement about the show’s second season and teased a new project that will be announced soon.

Overall, Coughlan’s masterclass at Canneseries showcased her dedication to using her platform for positive change and her commitment to standing up for what she believes in. Her unwavering support for important causes and her passion for her craft make her a truly inspirational figure in the entertainment industry.
