Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against U.S. Government Over Tariffs

Nintendo has taken legal action against the U.S. government by filing a lawsuit on Friday in response to the extraction of tariffs from global businesses. The gaming giant is seeking a refund for any duties it paid as a result of President Donald Trump’s executive orders invoking the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade following a Supreme Court decision that overturned the tariffs imposed by the president under IEEPA, citing that he had exceeded his authority. Over a thousand other companies have also filed lawsuits to request refunds for the tariffs they have paid. According to Nintendo’s complaint, these tariffs have led to the collection of over $200 billion on imports in total.

When reached for comment, Nintendo stated, “We can confirm that we have filed a request. We have nothing else to share on the topic.”

In light of the Supreme Court’s decision, President Trump responded by raising tariffs from 10% to 15%, a move that has sparked further legal challenges. Currently, 24 states have sued to contest that the president has once again overstepped the boundaries of his power with this adjustment.
