A former special education teacher in New Jersey, Allison Havemann-Niedrach, has admitted to sexually assaulting her 15-year-old student after exchanging more than 25,000 text messages with him during their illicit relationship. The 45-year-old married mother of two pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated sexual assault in Monmouth County Superior Court and faces 12 years in prison when she is sentenced in May.

Havemann-Niedrach was caught in June 2024 when authorities discovered that she had been molesting the eighth-grade student for about six months. The investigation began after the school’s vice principal raised concerns about her relationship with the teen, prompting another teacher to report witnessing inappropriate behavior, such as touching the student’s neck, back, and leg, as well as flirting.

The student, who reportedly bragged to his friends about dating his teacher, eventually confessed to the sexual relationship with Havemann-Niedrach when his mother took him to the police station. As part of her plea agreement, the former educator must surrender her teaching license and register as a sex offender.

Havemann-Niedrach, who started working at Freehold Intermediate School in 2022, described herself as a “passionate, results-driven, and sincere educator” on her LinkedIn page. Her attorney has not responded to requests for comment on the case.

The disturbing case highlights the importance of vigilance in protecting students from predators in positions of authority. It serves as a reminder of the need for schools to have strict policies and procedures in place to prevent and address instances of sexual misconduct among staff members.
