Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios Make Winning Doubles Debut at 2025 Brisbane International

In a thrilling display of skill and camaraderie, Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios teamed up for doubles at the 2025 Brisbane International, marking Djokovic’s first match of the year and Kyrgios’ return after 18 months. The duo, who also competed in singles at the ATP 250 tournament, received a wild card for the doubles event and faced off against Andreas Miles and Alexander Erler in a nail-biting match that lasted one hour and 48 minutes. Despite a tough battle, Djokovic and Kyrgios emerged victorious with a score of 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-8.

During the post-match interview, Djokovic expressed his gratitude for playing alongside Kyrgios, describing it as a “pleasure” and admitting that he mostly followed the Aussie’s lead on the court. He acknowledged Kyrgios’ talent and contribution to their win, stating, “Whatever Nick was saying, I was following actually.”

Kyrgios, known for his outspoken nature, had previously teased the media about playing with Djokovic, claiming that it was a pleasure to play with him but humorously adding, “it’s actually a pleasure playing with me, let’s be real.”

Looking ahead, Djokovic and Kyrgios are gearing up to face Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus in the second round of doubles at the Brisbane International. Mektic and Venus, who received a bye in the first round, will kick off their campaign on December 31. In addition to doubles, both Djokovic and Kyrgios will also begin their singles campaigns, with Djokovic facing Rinky Hijikata and Kyrgios taking on Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

After their stint in Brisbane, the pair will head to Melbourne for the Australian Open, where Djokovic is aiming to secure his record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title. With the support of tennis analysts and fans alike, Djokovic is determined to surpass Margaret Court’s record and etch his name in history. The Serb’s arrival in Brisbane also caused a stir as he sported a Pikachu-themed backpack, sparking speculation about a cryptic message related to his Major count.
