Katherine Maher, the CEO of National Public Radio (NPR), recently graced PBS with her insights, claiming that NPR is a paragon of non-partisan journalism. This assertion, however, raises eyebrows and invites skepticism.
In her remarks, Maher suggested that former President Trump is violating NPR’s First Amendment rights, a claim that seems rather far-fetched. If we take a step back, we find ourselves grappling with a curious contradiction. For years, we’ve been told that federal funding is but a drop in the bucket of NPR’s overall budget. So, one must wonder: why the apparent panic over losing that funding? Surely, if liberal benefactors are as plentiful as NPR would like us to believe, they could easily fill the financial void.

NPR CEO rips Trump order to defund as ‘retaliation,’ insists media outlet is ‘non-partisan’
In an appearance on “PBS NewsHour,” Maher denounced Trump’s executive order aimed at halting federal funding for NPR, labeling it as “viewpoint discrimination.” She asserted that the order is a retaliatory act against an organization whose editorial choices do not align with the president’s views. “This is a textbook example of viewpoint discrimination from a First Amendment standpoint,” she claimed, adding that withholding funding from NPR and PBS is a direct attack on their programming.
Defending her organization, Maher remarked, “We’re a non-partisan news organization. We strive to present a spectrum of viewpoints through our programming.” She further emphasized that attempts to characterize NPR as biased are misguided, insisting that the network aims to provide Americans with diverse perspectives.

One must ponder whether Maher recalls NPR’s conspicuous silence on the Hunter Biden laptop saga, a story that raised numerous questions yet received scant attention from the network.

If the liberal base wants to keep NPR afloat, perhaps they should consider funding it independently. After all, taxpayer dollars should not be a lifeline for a network that seemingly operates under a partisan banner.
