Diligent Robotics

As technology and artificial intelligence continue to evolve at a swift pace, new opportunities have emerged to enhance critical components of the healthcare value chain. These advancements can lead to improved workflow automation, enhanced patient engagement, and even streamlined supply chain operations. One area where innovation is often overlooked is last mile operations, which is where Diligent Robotics focuses its efforts.

Diligent Robotics has developed its flagship robot, Moxi, to assist medical teams by handling routine tasks that typically consume valuable human time and attention. Moxi is adept at transporting goods, delivering lab samples, and distributing medications or medical supplies, integrating smoothly into established workflows and environments within healthcare facilities.

Designed with user-friendliness and functionality in mind, Moxi boasts a sophisticated robotic arm capable of performing intricate tasks such as navigating elevation changes and opening doors. Equipped with advanced safety sensors and ample onboard storage, Moxi can carry multiple payloads across various physical locations with ease. Moreover, Moxi harnesses cutting-edge artificial intelligence that enables it to learn continuously from its interactions and adapt its behavior accordingly. Its social intelligence allows it to identify busy areas, like crowded elevators, and adjust its path to avoid collisions with people.

A vital aspect of Moxi’s technological foundation comes from Diligent’s partnership with Nvidia, a leader in AI and graphics processing. Nvidia’s innovative robotics training hardware powers Moxi’s intelligence platform, utilizing the Jetson platform for edge AI and robotics, which allows for advanced AI applications to be deployed efficiently at scale.

According to David Niewolny, senior director and global head of business development for healthcare at Nvidia, we stand on the brink of a transformative era in robotics and edge computing. He emphasizes the immense potential for improving workflows through innovative solutions like Moxi. In his view, last mile delivery and the alleviation of routine tasks represent significant non-traditional opportunities in healthcare.

The importance of these advancements cannot be overstated, especially as the field of humanoid robotics begins to flourish. Companies are now racing to enhance human productivity and streamline daily operations through intelligent robotic solutions. For instance, Tesla’s Optimus is designed to perform monotonous, hazardous, or repetitive tasks autonomously. Similarly, Figure.AI is developing a humanoid robot aimed at mitigating labor shortages across various sectors. Yet, while these developments promise plenty, they often propose generalized solutions without targeting specific needs.

Diligent Robotics takes a different approach by focusing on the pressing challenges within the healthcare system, particularly in response to the escalating crisis of labor shortages.

Nursing shortages, in particular, pose one of the most significant challenges facing healthcare providers. The inability to staff available beds can lead to delayed patient admissions, making nurses the critical bottleneck in patient care delivery.

Moxi’s target is not merely technological advancement; it aims to empower nurses and healthcare teams by freeing them from mundane tasks, allowing them to focus on patient care. The true essence of investing in Moxi lies in enhancing patient outcomes and improving access to healthcare.
