The courtroom was filled with tension as Frederick Green, the rapper accused of shooting New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd, grinned at his supporters while pleading not guilty to attempted murder charges. Boyd, who is still in the hospital recovering from the November 16 shooting, has undergone surgery and is currently in stable condition according to Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Shilpa Kalra.
The incident began when Green and his friends mocked Boyd, along with teammates Jamien Sherwood and Irvin Charles, for their flashy outfits at the Asian-fusion hotspot Sei Less in Midtown. A verbal altercation escalated into a physical altercation, with Green seen on video putting on a mask before firing shots at Boyd. One of the bullets pierced Boyd’s pulmonary artery, leading to multiple surgeries and a long road to recovery.
Green, also known as “Tbo Zay,” fled the scene in a white BMW and attempted to evade police by hiding in Buffalo. He changed his appearance, deleted his social media accounts, and deactivated his phone, but was eventually caught at his girlfriend’s apartment weeks later.
Boyd, a defensive back for the Jets, had joined the team in 2025 after playing for several other NFL teams. Green’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 22, where he will face the attempted murder charges. The case has garnered significant attention due to the involvement of a high-profile NFL player and a rapper known for his drill music.
