A postal worker from Rockland County has been taken into custody after allegedly forcefully pushing a 4-year-old Jewish boy to the ground in an incident captured on video.

Surveillance footage obtained by The Monsey Scoop shows the child walking towards a stationary mail truck when the 39-year-old USPS worker unexpectedly turns and forcefully pushes him onto the sidewalk in a Ramapo neighborhood on Thursday night.

After the shove, the worker is seen returning to his vehicle while the child, having fallen, stands up to collect his yarmulke that had been knocked off during the altercation, according to the footage.

The mailman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly yelling at children nearby before the boy approached him.

According to Ramapo police, the Stony Point resident was arrested on Friday, facing charges of endangering the welfare of a child and attempted assault in the third degree, both classified as misdemeanors.

The incident has incited outrage among leaders in the largely Hasidic and Orthodox Jewish community, who have denounced the act of violence against a child and lauded the police for their prompt response.

Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht stated on X that he had reviewed the footage showing the physical attack on the young child, describing the video as extremely disturbing and commending the police for handling the case with utmost seriousness, which led to the suspect’s arrest.

State Assemblyman Aron Wieder termed the event as “appalling and deeply troubling.”

State Senator Bill Weber also expressed his stance, urging that the USPS worker should face severe legal repercussions.

“Constituents have reached out, alarmed by the assault on a young child in the @TownOfRamapo. I echo their concern and outrage,” he wrote on X, emphasizing that the individual must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The suspect was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date, according to police. The USPS has not yet responded to The Post’s request for comment.
