A female school safety agent was injured in Brooklyn on Wednesday while trying to break up a fight between two middle school students, according to police reports.

The 53-year-old agent intervened in the altercation around 3:10 p.m. near IS 285, the Meyer Levin Middle School for the Performing Arts in East Flatbush. As the two youngsters brawled on Beverley Road near Ralph Avenue, the agent was stabbed in the leg and sustained a wound on her calf. She was promptly taken to Kings County Hospital Center where she is currently listed in stable condition.

Authorities are investigating whether the agent was intentionally stabbed or inadvertently injured during the scuffle. One juvenile person of interest has been taken into custody, although charges are still pending as of the evening.

The incident took place in a school that caters to approximately 750 students in grades 6, 7, and 8. The safety agent’s brave intervention highlights the challenges faced by school staff in maintaining a safe environment for students. Our thoughts are with the agent as she recovers from this traumatic experience.
