Woman Alleges Rape on Coney Island on Fourth of July
A shocking incident occurred on Coney Island during the Fourth of July celebrations, as a 25-year-old Brooklyn woman, Melissa Harris, reported being raped on the beach. What is even more distressing is that bystanders allegedly did not intervene to help her, instead choosing to laugh and film the horrifying ordeal.
According to Harris, the incident unfolded around 3 a.m. when she tripped over a walking mat while trying to escape a man who she felt had “bad vibes.” The man then proceeded to force oral sex on her while on the beach, with bystanders reportedly laughing and recording the disturbing scene.
Despite the distressing situation, no one came to Harris’s aid. Even when a light from a passing golf cart illuminated the scene, the driver did not stop to intervene. Harris managed to free herself and attempted to leave the beach, but her attacker followed her and ultimately raped her on Stillwell Avenue.
Recounting the harrowing experience, Harris described how the man bent her over and assaulted her, leaving her feeling scared and helpless. Witnesses were present during the attack, further adding to the trauma of the situation.
Prior to the assault, Harris had been with a group of people she had just met on the boardwalk after the fireworks display. She shared video footage showing a crowd gathered around a bonfire before the attack took place, indicating that the assailant was part of the group.
After the assaults, the group allegedly fled the scene, leaving Harris to cope with the aftermath of the traumatic events. Despite the ordeal, Harris bravely shared her story in hopes of identifying her attacker and ensuring that he is held accountable for his actions.
The NYPD has been notified of the incident, but no further details have been provided at this time. The community is urged to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation and bring justice to Melissa Harris.
