An NYPD sergeant tragically took his own life inside his car in Queens on Monday evening, as reported by law enforcement sources.
The 44-year-old officer, who was stationed in Queens, was discovered deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at approximately 7:20 p.m. on a residential street in Flushing, according to police and sources.
The identity of the sergeant has not been disclosed pending notification of his family.
Further details regarding the apparent suicide are currently unavailable as the investigation is still in progress.
This unfortunate event comes a few months after off-duty NYPD officer Gregory Purvis took his own life in an Upper Manhattan apartment in August.
During that time, NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry emphasized the toll that the stresses of police work can take on many members of the force.
“We lost another brother to the trauma of this work,” he wrote online following Purvis’ death.
“To the men and women who wear the uniform, please know that there are always, always people willing to listen about the bad days, about the days that hit too close to home.”
