Olivia Munn recently shared her experience of welcoming her daughter Méi via surrogate and how it gave her a new perspective on parenting. In an interview with People, Munn expressed how she felt like an expectant father while waiting for her daughter to arrive.
Munn, 44, and her husband John Mulaney decided to expand their family through surrogacy after Munn was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2023. Following cancer treatment, Munn underwent an egg retrieval process before a hysterectomy and oophorectomy, which led her into menopause. This prompted the couple to opt for surrogacy to fulfill their dream of having another child.
The process was not without its challenges, as Munn had concerns about finding the right surrogate. She emphasized the importance of finding someone who was kind and understanding of the unique circumstances surrounding her journey to motherhood. Despite her initial worries, Munn felt fortunate to connect with a surrogate who shared their kindness and bond.
While initially fearing that she might not be able to connect with her daughter as deeply because she did not carry her, Munn’s worries disappeared once she held Méi in her arms. She described the special bond she shared with her daughter, noting how Méi’s features reminded her of her own baby pictures. This connection reassured Munn that their bond was strong and unbreakable.
Through her experience with surrogacy, Munn gained a newfound appreciation for the different paths to parenthood and the unique connections that can form between parents and children. Despite the challenges along the way, Munn and Mulaney’s journey to welcoming their daughter Méi ultimately brought them closer together as a family.
