The Society of Camera Operators (SOC) recently held their annual awards ceremony, where Colin Anderson, SOC, was honored with the top prize for his exceptional work on “One Battle After Another.” The television award went to Mark Goellnicht, SOC, ACO, for his outstanding contribution to the episode “The Oner” from the series “The Studio.”

The awards ceremony took place on Saturday night, with watch parties held in Los Angeles, New York, and Atlanta. The SOC awards are designed to recognize the outstanding achievements of individuals in the film and television production industry.

In his speech, Mathew Moriarty, President of the Society of Camera Operators, highlighted the crucial role that camera operators play in bridging the gap between the creative vision of filmmakers and the audience. Despite the challenges faced by the industry in recent years, camera operators have continued to demonstrate boldness, creativity, and resilience in their work.

Anderson was up against tough competition for the award, including nominees like Brian Osmond, Lukasz Bielan, Gilles Corbeil, and Michael Fuchs. Each nominee showcased exceptional skill and talent in their respective projects.

On the television side, Goellnicht emerged victorious over Erdem Ertal, Scott Maguire, Jim McConkey, and Nick MĂĽller. His work on “The Oner” episode of “The Studio” stood out for its technical precision and storytelling prowess.

In addition to individual awards, the SOC also presented special honors to Nick Phillips, the inventor and founder of the Libra Head stabilization technology. Phillips’ groundbreaking invention has revolutionized the field of image stabilization, making it an essential tool for modern filmmakers.
