Isack Hadjar has addressed the controversy surrounding Helmut Marko’s criticism of his F1 debut with Red Bull last year. The French-Algerian driver faced a difficult start to his career as he crashed out on the formation lap of the Australian Grand Prix. The wet weather conditions caught him off guard, causing him to lose control of his VCARB01 and crash into the barriers, damaging the rear wing of his car.

After the race, Helmut Marko, who was overseeing Red Bull’s driver development program at the time, made a controversial comment about Hadjar’s emotional reaction to the crash. Marko’s statement was met with backlash on social media, with many criticizing him for his insensitivity. However, Hadjar recently revealed in an interview with Formule1.nl that Marko was not upset with him and even offered words of encouragement.

Hadjar admitted that he found the situation embarrassing himself and clarified that Marko’s comments may have been misinterpreted. The young driver also mentioned that he had spoken to Marko over the phone following the incident and received a message of support for his future endeavors.

In a turn of events, Hadjar’s 2026 preseason with Red Bull also began with a crash during testing in Barcelona. Despite the setback, Team Principal Laurent Mekies showed empathy towards Hadjar, acknowledging the challenging conditions and emphasizing the learning process for the young driver. Mekies highlighted the positive progress Hadjar had made in the car and expressed confidence in his development.

The crash on Day 2 of testing in Barcelona was not met with criticism, and Hadjar continued to work on his feedback and development with the Red Bull engineering team. Max Verstappen took over from him for the remaining sessions, showcasing Red Bull’s commitment to supporting their young talent.

Overall, the incident at the Australian GP and the recent crash in Barcelona have been learning experiences for Isack Hadjar as he navigates the challenges of his early F1 career. With the support of the Red Bull team and the lessons learned from these setbacks, Hadjar is poised to continue his development and make a mark in the world of Formula 1.
