Ons Jabeur, a two-time Wimbledon runner-up, recently announced on X that she will be taking a break from tennis. In her post, she expressed that she is no longer finding happiness in playing the sport and feels it is time to prioritize her well-being.
“For the past two years, I’ve been pushing myself so hard, dealing with injuries and various challenges,” Jabeur shared on X. “But deep down, I haven’t truly felt happy on the court for some time now.”
The 30-year-old’s last match was at Wimbledon where she retired from her first-round match due to difficulty breathing, a recurring issue for her as she suffers from asthma. This setback followed her early exit from the 2025 Australian Open due to similar breathing difficulties.
Jabeur’s 2024 season was cut short due to shoulder discomfort, and this year she has been struggling with a recurring knee and leg injury. Following her Wimbledon exit, she hinted at taking a break to focus on recovering and spending time with her family.
Despite being a former world No. 2, Jabeur has faced challenges in returning to her top form this year. She experienced early-round exits at the French Open and Australian Open but managed to reach the quarterfinals at the Qatar Open, Brisbane International, and Abu Dhabi Open.
Acknowledging her fans’ support, Jabeur expressed gratitude and reassured them that she would stay connected even during her time away from the court. Currently ranked 71st in the world, she did not specify the duration of her break.
As Jabeur takes this necessary pause from tennis to prioritize her well-being and rediscover joy in life, fans will eagerly await her return to the sport she loves.
