The Vibrant World of Orange Culture: A Celebration of Color and Collaboration

When the grayness of Berlin winter seems never-ending, the burst of color from Nigerian designer Adebayo Okelawal’s Orange Culture show is like a ray of sunshine cutting through the gloom.

Okelawal’s latest collection, titled “Backyards of Memory,” is a joyful ode to his late mother, who passed away from cancer in 2024. Reflecting on their relationship, he draws inspiration from the warm and vivid memories of his childhood spent in the backyard of their family home in Nigeria. This collection serves as a celebration of life, love, and the beauty found in simplicity.

Transporting us to a world of vibrant hues and soft textures, Okelawal’s designs evoke the essence of his childhood memories. From delicate shirts and flowing dresses to bold tailoring and sculptural elements, each piece tells a story of joy, freedom, and bonding. The color palette of yellow, orange, red, and green mirrors the sun-drenched backyard where he once played and laughed with his family.

Collaboration lies at the heart of Orange Culture, with all pieces crafted in Nigeria using locally sourced fabrics. This season, Okelawal teamed up with a talented group of local artisans to bring his vision to life. From prints developed with artist Paolo Sisiano to handbags inspired by West African percussion instruments, each detail showcases the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria.

By working with brands like Kisara, Moni Morgan, Kkerele, and King Daviid, Okelawal aims to uplift and empower the local community. Through his platform, he shines a spotlight on Nigerian craftsmanship and creativity, creating a space for collaboration and celebration.
