The series finale of Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star” aired on Monday, and it was an emotional rollercoaster for fans. Titled “Homecoming,” the episode saw Owen Strand, played by Rob Lowe, saving the day by deactivating a nuclear reactor after an asteroid collision in Austin, Texas. The dramatic ending was fitting for a show known for its intense emergencies.

After the crisis is averted, Owen decides to leave the 126 and return to New York, leaving the station in the capable hands of Judd, played by Jim Parrack. The emotional farewell scene sees Owen’s son, T.K., and his husband, Carlos, honoring the transition. T.K. has retired from his job as an EMT to focus on raising Jonah, their adopted son.

Rob Lowe reflected on his character’s journey, stating that Owen had completed his mission of rebuilding his family and the 126 in Austin. The departure of Owen marks the end of an era for the show, but it opens up new possibilities for the remaining characters.

T.K. and Carlos’s storyline also reaches a satisfying conclusion, with T.K. embracing his new role as a stay-at-home dad. The couple’s journey has come full circle, mirroring actor Ronen Rubinstein’s real-life experience of becoming a father during the filming of the show.

As “9-1-1” continues on ABC, the future of the characters from “Lone Star” remains uncertain. However, Lowe, Rubinstein, and Rafael Silva have expressed interest in reprising their roles in the “9-1-1” universe. The potential for crossovers or a new spinoff on ABC is something they are open to exploring.

Showrunner Rashad Raisani discussed the finale’s creative choices, including the prominent product placement of Verizon’s THOR trucks. The collaboration with Verizon added a layer of realism to the storyline, showcasing the importance of technology in emergency response.

The decision not to kill off any characters in the finale was intentional, as Raisani wanted to end the show on a hopeful note. The emotional journey of the characters, including the fake-out death of Owen, added depth to the storytelling.

Looking ahead, Raisani is hopeful that the characters from “Lone Star” will have a future in the “9-1-1” universe. The possibility of crossovers or new storylines involving the 126 team excites him, as there are still untold stories to explore.

In conclusion, the finale of “9-1-1: Lone Star” may have marked the end of one chapter, but it leaves the door open for new beginnings for the beloved characters. Fans can look forward to seeing where their journeys take them next.
