UConn star Paige Bueckers is continuing to make waves in the world of women’s basketball. Recently, Nike announced that Bueckers will be the first name, image, and likeness athlete to design and launch a player edition sneaker. The brand unveiled Bueckers’ Nike G.T. Hustle 3 on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in her career.

“It’s definitely motivating to wear your own shoe,” Bueckers shared in a statement. “I grew up wearing Nikes — all the signature shoes — so it’s surreal to have this player edition model. I just want to show out in it.”

The Nike G.T. Hustle 3 features personalized details that reflect Bueckers’ journey to becoming the 2021 Naismith Player of the Year. The sneaker showcases the area codes for Storrs, Conn., and Bueckers’ hometown in Minnesota on the left tongue. Additionally, a text bubble with the inspiring phrase “Be You, Be Great” is printed on the left heel, a message she receives from her father before every game. The right heel proudly displays her last name, “Bueckers.”

Bueckers first signed an NIL deal with Nike in September 2023, adding to her impressive list of partnerships with companies like Gatorade, Dunkin’, Bose, and Chegg. She also made headlines in August by signing an NIL deal with Unrivaled, a new winter 3×3 professional league co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. Bueckers became the first NCAA athlete to receive ownership equity in a league, hinting at her potential future in professional basketball.

The conversation around Bueckers’ playing future intensified after the 2025 WNBA Draft Lottery in mid-November. The Dallas Wings secured the top pick, positioning them to select Bueckers if she declares for the draft. While Bueckers is a redshirt senior with the option to return to UConn for another season due to extra eligibility granted because of the COVID-19 pandemic, she has expressed her intention for this college season to be her last.

Bueckers’ collaboration with Nike adds her to a growing list of women’s basketball players who have had input in designing exclusive sneakers with the brand. Notable WNBA stars like Jewell Loyd, Jonquel Jones, Sabrina Ionescu, A’ja Wilson, and Caitlin Clark have all made their mark in the world of sneaker design, showcasing the increasing influence of female athletes in the industry.

On the court, Bueckers is off to a strong start this season, averaging 22 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game through six games. Undefeated UConn is set to face Holy Cross before taking on Louisville in the Women’s Champions Classic at Barclays Center on Saturday.

As Bueckers continues to break barriers and inspire fans both on and off the court, her impact in women’s basketball and the sports industry at large is undeniable.
