Operation Nightforce, conducted over the past two days in eastern Southland, targeted suppliers with the assistance of additional personnel in the district and a drug detection dog. Senior Sergeant Gary Iddenten of Southern Police stated that multiple properties were under scrutiny, leading to the arrest of two individuals without any resistance.
The operation revealed cannabis cultivation, a firearm, as well as other Class A and B substances. A 20-year-old male suspect is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Invercargill District Court on March 25, facing a multitude of drug-related charges. Additionally, a 39-year-old woman was detained for violating bail conditions related to prior charges.
Snr Sgt Iddenten emphasized that investigations are ongoing, with more prosecutions anticipated. He urged the public to report any information regarding drug suppliers, emphasizing the harmful impact of such substances on communities.
Individuals affected by drug addiction were encouraged to seek support through the Alcohol and Drug helpline or Crimestoppers for anonymous tips. The police underscored their commitment to combatting drug supply activities, regardless of the location.
