Two teenagers in Dunedin were encouraged to come back to the location where they caused $2000 worth of damage after their pictures were shared on social media, according to the police.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond from Dunedin reported that officers were summoned to a residence on Helensburgh Rd at 5:20 pm the previous day.

The homeowner received an alert from his security cameras indicating that some teenagers had entered his property and were vandalizing the place.

The 14 and 15-year-old boys allegedly caused damage amounting to $2000, Snr Sgt Bond mentioned.

“They broke a glass garage door. But when they noticed the cameras inside the house, they used a stick to destroy two of them as well.”

Additionally, they took some tools.

The homeowner went to check and discovered the boys, who were unfamiliar to him, but they fled.

He then shared their photos on social media.

“They have been identified and their peers have advised them to go back to the location, which they did, and were met by the police.”

The duo was questioned, returned to their guardians, and would be monitored by Youth Aid, Snr Sgt Bond revealed.
