Paramount+ has announced a new mystery drama series titled “Playing Gracie Darling,” which revolves around the aftermath of a young girl’s sudden disappearance. Created and written by Miranda Nation, known for her work on “Undertow,” and directed by Jonathan Brough, the six-part show is set to be a captivating thriller produced by Curio Pictures.

The storyline follows Joni, who experienced the disappearance of her best friend, Gracie Darling, during a séance when they were just 14 years old. Fast forward 27 years, and the local kids in a small town engage in a game called ‘Playing Gracie Darling,’ which takes a dark turn when another girl goes missing. Joni, now a child psychologist, returns to the town and teams up with police sergeant Jay to uncover the truth behind the mysterious disappearances. Meanwhile, Gracie’s sister Ruth faces her worst nightmare as her own daughter vanishes under eerily similar circumstances.

The cast of the series includes Morgana O’Reilly as Joni, Rudi Dharmalingam as Jay, and Celia Pacquola, Annie Maynard, and Anne Tenney in supporting roles. The show is set to be a thrilling blend of supernatural elements, coming-of-age themes, and crime thriller aspects.

Executive produced by Jo Porter, Rachel Gardner, Sophia Mogford, and Miranda Nation, “Playing Gracie Darling” has received significant production investment from Screen Australia and support from Screen NSW. The series is set to be distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Television.

In other news, Screen Australia has appointed Louise Gough as its new director of narrative content. With a background in broadcast, production, and funding bodies, Gough brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She will report directly to chief operating officer Grainne Brunsdon and oversee the development of compelling narrative content for the Australian screen industry.

Additionally, the Multiplex Association of India and various cinema operators have designated Friday as the third National Cinema Day, a celebration of the theatrical experience. On this day, ticket prices will be reduced to promote cinema attendance, with over 4,000 cinemas participating in the event. Several films are expected to be released on National Cinema Day, including “Transformers One,” “Never Let Go,” “Yudhra,” and “Stree 2.”

Overall, the entertainment industry is buzzing with exciting new projects and initiatives, promising audiences a diverse range of content to enjoy on both the big and small screens. Stay tuned for more updates on these upcoming productions and events.
