Paramount Australia and BBC Studios Production Australia have announced their collaboration to produce a local Australian version of the popular British light drama format “Ghosts.” The series will be broadcast on Network 10, which is owned by Paramount, as well as on the Paramount+ streaming platform.

This family comedy series will consist of eight episodes and will be set in a haunted country house filled with new ghosts that are as chaotic and unpredictable as Australian history itself. Although details about the cast, creative team, and production schedule have not been revealed, the show is expected to premiere in 2025.

The original “Ghosts” series was a success in the UK, produced by Monumental Television in association with Them There for BBC One. It became the most-watched comedy in 2023, with the finale attracting over 6 million viewers within seven days. The US version of the series is currently in production for its fourth season on CBS, produced by CBS Studios and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Daniel Monaghan, SVP Content & Programming at Paramount Australia, expressed excitement about the upcoming Australian adaptation, stating, “’Ghosts’ has been a smash hit in the UK and US and has also attracted a very loyal fanbase here in Australia. With a stellar cast yet to be announced, we can’t wait to bring to life our very own series with an Aussie twist.”

The local adaptation of “Ghosts” will follow the story of Kate and Sean, a young couple who inherit a mansion in the country. Unbeknownst to them, the house is haunted by a group of spirits who have passed away in Ramshead Manor over the past 200 years. As Kate and Sean navigate their new living situation, Kate’s newfound ability to see the ghosts will change their lives forever.

Kylie Washington, GM and Creative Director at BBC Studios Productions Australia, highlighted the adaptability of “Ghosts” to different cultural settings, stating, “’Ghosts’ is one of those brilliant comedies which lends itself perfectly to localization around the world, and we have our own, unique, Australian characters that reflect our very own history and culture.”

With the promise of a fresh Australian twist on the beloved series, fans can look forward to a unique and entertaining take on “Ghosts” when it premieres in 2025.
