The tragic death of 7-year-old Legend Jenkins in North Carolina has left the community in mourning and his parents facing serious charges. Legend was fatally struck by a car while walking home from a grocery store with his older brother in Gastonia last Tuesday. The incident occurred when Legend ran into traffic and was hit by a jeep driven by a 76-year-old woman.

Legend’s mother, Jessica Ivey, revealed that it was the first time she had allowed her sons to walk to the nearby grocery store alone. This decision proved to be a fatal mistake, as it led to the untimely death of her young son. Both Jessica and the boys’ father, Samuele Jenkins, have been charged with involuntary manslaughter and child neglect as a result of their actions.

The parents were arrested and denied permission to attend their son’s funeral, facing a hefty $1.5 million bond. The Gastonia Police Department stated that the children were unsupervised at the time of the accident, emphasizing the importance of holding adults accountable for ensuring the safety of their children.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the tragic incident will not face any charges, as there was no evidence of speeding or wrongdoing on her part. A witness to the crash, Summer Williams, recounted the heartbreaking moment when she held Legend in her arms as he succumbed to his injuries.

Despite her efforts to comfort the young boy, Legend tragically passed away at the hospital a few hours later. The community has been left devastated by the loss of a bright young life, and the legal proceedings against his parents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety of children in all circumstances.
