Chicago police are currently investigating two sexual attacks that occurred within West Ridge Nature Park this week. The incidents have prompted the CPD to issue a community alert and increase security measures in the area.

Both cases involved a man approaching women, following them, and inappropriately touching them inside the park located at 5801 North Western Avenue. In the first incident, a 53-year-old woman was walking in the park around 10:15 p.m. on Monday, August 4, when a man grabbed her from behind and then fled on foot.

Two days later, on Wednesday, August 6, a 33-year-old woman reported that a man struck her buttocks with his hand, causing her pain. She ran away yelling for help, and the man began to follow her before ultimately fleeing the park.

The suspect is described by police as a heavyset man of unknown race between 20 and 45 years old, standing between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-11. He is said to have long black hair and a black beard. In the first incident, he was wearing a dark blue sweater, black sweatpants, and Nike sandals, while in the second incident, he was wearing a flannel shirt and pants.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect to contact Area Three detectives at 312-744-8261.

These disturbing incidents have raised concerns among the community and have led to increased vigilance in the area. It is important for residents to remain aware of their surroundings and take necessary precautions when visiting West Ridge Nature Park.

As always, the safety and well-being of all individuals in the community are of utmost importance. It is crucial for everyone to work together to ensure that parks and public spaces remain safe for all to enjoy.
