Paul Bettany Denies Rumors of Playing Lord Voldemort in New Harry Potter Series
Speculation has been rife about Paul Bettany potentially taking on the iconic role of Lord Voldemort in the upcoming HBO adaptation of the Harry Potter series. However, the “WandaVision” star has refuted these rumors, stating that he has not received any official offer for the part yet.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Bettany expressed his admiration for the Harry Potter franchise and HBO but clarified that no one has approached him regarding the role of the Dark Wizard. Other actors like Cillian Murphy and Tilda Swinton have also been linked to the character, previously portrayed by Ralph Fiennes in the original film series.
The new adaptation, set for a seven-season run on HBO, is currently in production in the U.K. with a fresh cast taking on the beloved characters. Relative unknowns Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout will step into the roles of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, respectively.
Notable casting choices include John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Hagrid. The series will also feature a new lineup for Harry’s Hogwarts classmates, including the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
Scheduled for a 2027 premiere on HBO Max, Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming boss JB Perrette has touted the series as the “streaming event of the decade.” With a mix of established actors and fresh talent, the new Harry Potter adaptation is generating buzz among fans eagerly awaiting its release.
