Hong Kong’s PCCW Media has secured Hulu as the U.S. distributor for its six-part drama, “The Season,” produced in collaboration with SK Global.
The agreement, which was finalized earlier this year, precedes the show’s global market launch at Mipcom. At this event, Fremantle will promote the title to international buyers with the backing of De Maio Entertainment. Viu, the commissioning platform, retains streaming rights across its 15 markets and will feature the series as part of its original content lineup.
SK Global, known for productions like “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Thai Cave Rescue,” and the Emmy-winning “Delhi Crime,” collaborated with PCCW Media in creating the series.
Set against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s summer social scene, the narrative focuses on a wealthy group whose seemingly perfect lives unravel with the arrival of a new outsider. The series promises a rich visual journey into themes of wealth, betrayal, and loyalty, all woven into the city’s vibrant harbor culture.
The cast is led by Jessie Mei Li, recognized for her role in Netflix’s “Shadow and Bone,” alongside seasoned Hong Kong actress Karena Lam, a three-time recipient of the Golden Horse Award. The ensemble also features Chris Pang from “Interior Chinatown,” Justin Chien of “The Brothers Sun,” and Yvonne Chapman, who has appeared in “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” Celina Jade and Toby Stephens complete the main cast.
Other notable actors include Rising Star of Asia Award 2025 winner Kōki, Lee Jae-yoon from the second season of “Physical 100,” and competition series champion Lyman Heung. Hong Kong pop sensations Anson Lo of the boy band Mirror and Marf Yau from the girl group Collar will also feature in guest appearances.
“We are excited for ‘The Season’ to stream on Hulu in the United States and to partner with Fremantle for global distribution. This captivating narrative promises to connect with audiences worldwide,” commented Janice Lee, managing director of PCCW Media Group and CEO of Viu. “Created in partnership with our collaborators at SK Global, the series brings viewers into the dynamic pulse of Hong Kong through visually striking storytelling that resonates universally.”
Chloe Dan, executive VP and head of television at SK Global, remarked: “‘The Season’ tells a story that is truly universal. We are delighted to work with Hulu in delivering it to American viewers. As SK Global expands its presence globally, this series exemplifies the unique, premium narratives we are proud to showcase worldwide.”
Behind the scenes, creator and executive producer Yalun Tu, known for his work on Amazon Japan’s “My Undead Yokai Girlfriend,” which he co-developed, is joined by a distinguished team, including multiple episodes directed by Chilean filmmaker Marialy Rivas, known for her latest film, “The Jetty.”
The production team is represented by Lee and Agatha Lo from PCCW Media, alongside SK Global’s Dan, Matt Aragachi, and Dylan Tarason.
