Perez Hilton has revealed the reason behind his recent hospitalization after photos raised concerns about his health.
In a video shared on YouTube on Monday, March 23, Hilton, 48, described his hospital stay as both a “stupidity” and “the most important video” he has ever shared. “It was the worst and best experience,” he said.
Hilton recounted that he initially had the flu for about a week and was on medication. However, he admitted to not taking his medication with food, which led to the development of an ulcer, a perforation, and sepsis.
“People die of sepsis,” Hilton said, visibly emotional. “The day before my hospitalization, I had severe stomach pain, thinking it would pass. The next morning, I couldn’t walk and needed an ambulance to get to the hospital.”
Hilton expressed gratitude for the hospital staff, mentioning his 21-day stay where he felt he got to know “everybody” by the time he left. He underwent numerous tests initially because the doctors were unable to locate the perforation.
“Five days later, I had laparoscopic surgery,” he explained. “They made small incisions to move my organs and find the perforation before washing me out due to massive infection.”

Hilton also had fluid in his lungs that needed draining and underwent another significant procedure. Despite the efforts to drain “a lot of infection,” the sepsis persisted.
“My body just continued to deteriorate,” Hilton said, adding that his heart became unstable.
While in the hospital, Hilton encountered another infection, which he mentioned is “common.” For two weeks, he was only nourished through an IV. When he began to eat again, it was challenging for his body. He emotionally recounted incidents in bed and seeking help from nurses.
“The recovery was painstakingly slow. Two weeks of sickness followed by a week of improvement before discharge. The final week was extremely difficult, as I just wanted to return home to my children,” Hilton shared, expressing gratitude to the medical team.
“A particularly tough moment was when they inserted an NG tube through my nose to my stomach to drain bile and infection. I had it twice during the first week, along with a foley catheter inserted in my bladder. The weakness from prolonged bed rest was severe, causing swelling and significant weight loss. Even at home, I don’t feel fully recovered,” Hilton said, indicating a PICC line in his arm.
Currently, Hilton is receiving IV treatment, which he finds more effective than pills. He expressed a strong desire to avoid another hospital visit, calling it a “one and done” experience. He also plans to adjust his daily routine, focusing on better sleep and family dinners.
“My sister deserves immense gratitude. She’s my angel. Without her, I might not be here,” he stated emotionally. “Despite having a family in Los Angeles, she flew out twice and stayed with me most of the time.”
