On August 4, Hilton was admitted to the hospital following an apparent self-harm incident during a TikTok livestream. After the livestream concluded, graphic clips allegedly showing the columnist covered in blood began circulating on social media.
The Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hilton’s Florida residence after receiving numerous calls from individuals who had watched the livestream. The deputies verified that Hilton — whose identity was initially withheld — had been “safely recovered and transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.”
Authorities reported that deputies first met with Hilton’s family outside the home and determined that Hilton was alone inside.
A spokesperson for the MDCSO stated, “In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication.”
The spokesperson further explained, “Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies, and the public.”
Hilton was taken to a medical facility with assistance from mental health professionals and members of the Crisis Response Unit at the MDCSO.
