Father Michael Pfleger Commends Chicago Police Department Following Shooting Incident
During his Sunday sermon, Father Michael Pfleger praised the Chicago Police Department for their handling of a shooting incident that occurred near St. Sabina Church over the weekend. The incident took place during a post-prom celebration that resulted in injuries to seven individuals.
Pfleger, known for his activism against street violence, has been vocal about the need for peace in the city. His parish often organizes events such as gun turn-ins and peace marches. On Sunday, he addressed the incident that unfolded just outside the church premises.
According to Pfleger, he noticed a large gathering of young people outside the church late on Friday night, with reports suggesting it was a post-prom event. Upon receiving information that some individuals in the crowd may have been armed, the Chicago Police Department dispatched units to the scene to disperse the crowd.
Despite their efforts to persuade the crowd to leave peacefully, the situation escalated, leading to gunfire at around 2 a.m. Pfleger commended the CPD for their handling of the situation, highlighting their professionalism and efforts to prevent further harm.
Video footage captured the chaotic scene with hundreds of people gathered in the vicinity. Moments before the shooting, a CPD supervisor directed officers to take decisive action to disperse the crowd, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Reflecting on the incident, Pfleger expressed gratitude that only seven individuals were injured and emphasized the role of the police in potentially preventing more severe outcomes. He shared a touching moment where officers rushed an injured individual to the hospital, possibly saving their life.
In response to the violence, Pfleger announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the shooters. He also called for increased parental supervision, stressing the importance of safeguarding youth from exposure to late-night violence.
As Pfleger continues his advocacy for peace and community safety, he urges residents to support efforts towards a safer and more secure environment for all.
