Zoe Champion and Wei Lin Explore the Complexities of AI in Their Pre-Fall Collection
Zoe Champion and Wei Lin delved into the world of artificial intelligence in their latest pre-fall collection, examining both the advantages and drawbacks of AI technology. The duo, known for their use of computerized production for their no-waste knits, faced a unique challenge in replicating the imperfections of a machine through their designs.
Champion approached this challenge by experimenting with blurred patterns and incorporating elements of human craftsmanship, such as lace and popcorn knit, into their pieces. While these mixed-media elements added a touch of humanity to the collection, they sometimes felt disjointed and unresolved. However, there were standout pieces that caught the eye, such as a double swimsuit that cleverly appeared as four pieces when it was actually just two.
One of the collection’s highlights was Champion’s innovative use of flounces, which were inset into the knits in a way that revealed the other side of the fabric. This technique not only added movement to the garments but also disrupted the traditional PH5 column silhouette, creating a dynamic and visually interesting effect.
