GmbH Show at Berlin Fashion Week: A Beautiful Blend of Fashion and Politics
Despite the scorching heat on the hottest day of the year, guests at the GmbH show were hardly bothered by the hour-long delay. The well air-conditioned venue with comfortable seating made the wait bearable, but the real reason for the anticipation was the enriching experience promised by GmbH at Berlin Fashion Week. Starting the show with a minute’s silence for the victims in Gaza, the emotional journey presented by Huseby and Işık was one of beauty and contemplation. The collection reflected thoughts of charity, debt relief, family celebrations, and coming-of-age experiences. Divided into three acts, the show was accompanied by powerful music, including pieces by Zeki MĂĽren, Turkey’s queer visionary and music star.
GmbH showcased the gender flexibility of their designs, with waist-emphasizing blazers adorned with knots and bow details, paired with knee-high leather boots and airy cape shirts. Satin and skin brought a tactile element to the collection, with unbuttoned pants and delicate feather embellishments adding a sense of lightness.
One of the standout pieces that caught the guests’ attention was tops made of euro banknotes fastened with small bows, emphasizing the message of beauty and craftsmanship. According to Huseby, “Beauty and message must go hand in hand. We want to make beautiful clothes, but neglecting craftsmanship and quality would dilute the power of the message.”
