Dozens of homes in Christchurch were left in the dark following an unexpected power outage that hit various parts of the city early Monday morning. The outage, which began at 4:53 am, impacted a total of 292 properties in Belfast, Harewood, and Northwood. With temperatures dropping to a low of 3 degrees Celsius, residents were left to brave the cold without electricity.

Orion, the city’s power provider, stated that the cause of the outage was still being investigated, but their team was actively working on-site to safely restore power to the affected areas. By 7:05 am, 50 properties had already been reconnected, and the remaining homes were expected to have their power back on by approximately 9:56 am, according to chrislynchmedia.com.

The outage disrupted residents on several streets, including Atap Place, Clearwater Ave, East Stream Lane, Eminence Drive, Gardiners Rd, Harts Creek Lane, Hebe Lane, Johns Rd, Kaikainui Lane, Karos Lane, Manggis St, Mayfly Lane, Rotoiti Lane, Stella Close, Tanjong Lobang Cres, Waterview Court, and Waterway Lane.

Orion expressed appreciation for the patience of those affected and assured that updates would be provided on their website as more information became available.
