Today, President Donald J. Trump has signed an Executive Order heralding the launch of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C.—the inaugural INDYCAR street race in the nation’s capital, set to take place near the National Mall as part of the festivities for America’s 250th birthday.
- The Order mandates the Department of the Interior and the Department of Transportation to identify an appropriate race route that highlights the grandeur of Washington, D.C., showcasing its iconic monuments.
- Moreover, it instructs both the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Transportation to swiftly issue all necessary permits and authorizations needed for the race’s planning and execution.
- The Secretary of Transportation is empowered to utilize available funds to facilitate the event and collaborate with the FAA for the use of drone technology and aerial photography, ensuring an enhanced experience for spectators while safeguarding nearby government facilities.
- The Order also requires the Administration to work in tandem with the Mayor of Washington, D.C., to guarantee that all roads, trails, or bridges are well-maintained and suitable for use in the race course.
