President Trump signed an Executive Order establishing the President’s Make America Healthy Again Commission, chaired by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The Commission is focused on investigating and addressing the root causes of America’s escalating health crisis, with a primary focus on childhood chronic diseases.

Within the first 100 days, the Commission is expected to produce an assessment summarizing what is known and what questions remain regarding the childhood chronic disease crisis, including international comparisons. Within 180 days, a strategy based on the assessment findings will be developed to improve the health of America’s children.

The Commission has outlined four policy directives to reverse chronic disease, including empowering Americans through transparency and open-source data, prioritizing gold-standard research on the causes of illness, working with farmers to ensure healthy and affordable food options, and expanding treatment options and health coverage flexibility for lifestyle changes and disease prevention.

The goal of the Commission is to restore trust in medical and scientific institutions by holding public hearings, meetings, roundtables, and similar events to gather expert input from public health leaders.

The rise of chronic illnesses in America is a significant concern, with the healthcare system primarily focused on treating rather than preventing these conditions. Statistics show that a large portion of adults and children in the U.S. are affected by chronic diseases, leading to serious economic and national security consequences.

Chronic conditions have become increasingly prevalent in American society, impacting life expectancy, cancer rates, asthma prevalence, and childhood health conditions like allergies, asthma, and autoimmune diseases. Overmedication, particularly among children, is also on the rise, with concerns about the long-term effects of such practices.

The economic impact of chronic diseases extends to our military and healthcare expenditure, with a significant portion of healthcare costs directed towards managing chronic and mental health conditions. Americans have lost trust in the health system, questioning the honesty of information provided about the country’s health crisis and potential solutions.

President Trump has taken steps to address the health crisis, fulfilling his promise to establish a special Presidential Commission to investigate the root causes of chronic illnesses. In his first term, he focused on lowering healthcare costs, providing more healthcare options, and improving care for the American people.

Actions taken by the prior Trump Administration include initiatives such as the Right To Try Act, fighting kidney disease, accelerating medical breakthroughs in genetic treatments, addressing the opioid crisis, and expanding access to telehealth services, especially in underserved communities.

Overall, the Make America Healthy Again Commission aims to address the growing health crisis in America, focusing on childhood chronic diseases and working towards preventative measures to improve the health and well-being of all Americans.
