In what many perceive as a blatant case of political vendetta, former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, aged 68 and a Gold Star mother, has been handed a nine-year prison sentence.
Last week, a close associate of President Trump, Peter Ticktin, took a stand by filing an amicus brief advocating for Peters in Colorado.
Ticktin’s brief articulates support for Peters, highlighting her ongoing appeal to the Colorado Court of Appeals and her urgent health issues necessitating a habeas corpus petition under 28 U.S.C. § 2254 for release from prison to access medical care. The brief suggests that her civil and constitutional rights have been violated, warranting her release during the appeal process. It asserts:
Tina Peters has faced prosecution for uncovering alleged misconduct by other Colorado officials—whether intentional or not. It is the Colorado Attorney General who arguably stands accused of obstruction of an official proceeding under 18 U.S.C. § 1512(c) and of tampering with evidence, an act completed in various Colorado jurisdictions…
Peters’ alleged “crime” was the preservation of digital election records before a software upgrade that would have erased them, in contravention of federal law (52 U.S.C. §20701).
In October 2024, Peters was convicted on three charges related to her efforts to maintain integrity in election records from the contentious 2020 elections, counter to instructions to delete them, despite legal requirements for record retention.
The presiding judge, described in less-than-flattering terms, chastised Peters, accusing her of having “white privilege” during sentencing.
President Trump has called on the DOJ to intervene for Tina Peters. She attempted to expose election fraud she observed in Colorado.
The judge’s remarks were condescending and inappropriate, leading to her nine-year sentence!

Peters, a 68-year-old Gold Star Mother in declining health, is now serving nine years in prison for her attempts to question the legitimacy of the 2020 elections. The narrative among her supporters suggests that there is a systematic effort to silence dissenters.
Shortly after Ticktin’s brief was submitted, President Trump directed the Department of Justice to take all necessary measures to secure her release, labeling her a victim of political persecution by the current administration.
“The radical left Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser turns a blind eye to violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants while imprisoning Tina Peters, a 69-year-old Gold Star mother who endeavored to document alleged election fraud. Tina is an innocent political prisoner suffering from cruel and unusual punishment. This is a case of leftist persecution to conceal their electoral misdeeds. The same party that goes to El Salvador to rescue an MS-13 terrorist is now imprisoning a grandmother, whose son sacrificed his life for our country. Colorado must rectify this unjust imprisonment of an innocent American. I am directing the Department of Justice to take all necessary actions to liberate this “hostage” held in a Colorado prison for political reasons. FREE TINA PETERS, NOW!”
