During the State of the Union address on Tuesday night, President Donald Trump took a moment to honor the late right-wing political advocate Charlie Kirk, who tragically lost his life last year. Trump emphasized the need to denounce all forms of political violence, a sentiment that visibly moved Charlie’s wife, Erika Kirk, as she was seen getting emotional in the audience.
As Trump paid tribute to individuals whose stories have impacted the nation, he specifically highlighted his “great friend, Charlie Kirk.” The camera captured Erika’s tearful reaction as the president recounted Charlie’s final moments before his untimely death.
Erika struggled to hold back tears as the audience rose in a standing ovation to honor her late husband. Trump urged the nation to unite under the principles of unity and peace, emphasizing the rejection of all forms of political violence.
Tragically, the conservative commentator Charlie Kirk lost his life after being shot in the neck on a college campus in September 2025. President Donald Trump took to social media to announce Kirk’s passing shortly after the incident.
The tragic event took place during a Q&A session with students at Utah Valley University in Orem, UT, where Kirk sustained fatal injuries amidst a crowd of hundreds, including some protesters.
Charlie Kirk, a staunch ally of President Donald Trump, was known for promoting election fraud misinformation post the 2020 election. He also faced scrutiny for his involvement with Turning Point USA and his appearance before a House Committee regarding the January 6 riots.
Charlie Kirk is survived by his two young children and his wife Erika, who has bravely stepped into the role of CEO at Turning Point USA, the non-profit organization founded by her late husband.
