In a significant move for online privacy, President Donald J. Trump has officially enacted the TAKE IT DOWN Act. This pivotal legislation, championed by First Lady Melania Trump, marks a considerable advancement in the ongoing battle against digital exploitation.

The signing of this significant bill has garnered bipartisan acclaim from both sides of the aisle:

Sen. Ted Cruz: “The TAKE IT DOWN ACT represents a monumental victory for victims of revenge porn and deepfake misuse. Those who exploit modern technology to disseminate such degrading content will now face just repercussions, and tech giants can no longer ignore the proliferation of this horrific material. This day is a tribute to the courage and relentless advocacy of Elliston Berry, Francesca Mani, Breeze Liu, and Brandon Guffey, whose efforts were crucial in bringing this law to fruition. I extend my gratitude to my colleagues in legislation, particularly Sen. Amy Klobuchar and First Lady Melania Trump, for their collaboration in advancing this essential law to safeguard the privacy and dignity of all Americans online.”

Sen. Amy Klobuchar: “Big news: my bipartisan TAKE IT DOWN Act, in collaboration with Sen. Cruz, has been signed into law today. This legislation is a protective measure for victims of online abuse and establishes critical guidelines for social media and AI. I appreciate the First Lady’s support and the advocates whose dedication made this possible.”

Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar: “Prior to this law, victims faced neglect. Schools were unable to intervene, law enforcement lacked the necessary tools, and Big Tech turned a blind eye. With the enactment of TAKE IT DOWN, that narrative shifts. Online platforms are now mandated to act, and predators will be held accountable. This law empowers victims and provides them with the legal backing they deserve.”

X CEO Linda Yaccarino: “I am honored to witness the signing of the Take It Down Act at the @WhiteHouse today. Our gratitude goes to @FLOTUS for her commitment to safety. @X will continue to collaborate with @SenTedCruz, @MarshaBlackburn, @RepNancyMace, and @NCMEC to enhance internet safety, especially for children.”

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson: “No one should endure the fear of having their most private moments weaponized against them. Revenge porn is a ruthless violation, and for too long, the legal framework has lagged behind technological advancements. With President Trump’s guidance, we are now addressing this issue on a national level, standing up for survivors, holding predators accountable, and asserting that digital abuse is indeed real abuse, warranting serious consequences.”

National Center for Missing & Exploited Children: “Today, @NCMEC_CEO Michelle DeLaune and our Chief Legal Officer, Yiota Souras, attended the signing ceremony of the TAKE IT DOWN Act at the White House. We appreciate @POTUS and @FLOTUS for prioritizing this essential legislation and addressing child exploitation. This groundbreaking law addresses the distribution of both real and digitally altered exploitative content involving children—content that may not have been previously covered by existing definitions of child sexual abuse material (CSAM)—and mandates that social media platforms remove such imagery. As the national clearinghouse on issues related to missing and exploited children, we will continue collaborating with Congress and the Administration to identify emerging threats in child sexual exploitation and work towards enhancing protections for children online.”

National Organization for Women President Christian F. Nunes: “Today marks a historic moment with the signing of the Take It Down Act into law by President Trump. This landmark bipartisan legislation targets one of the most alarming threats to women’s safety—the unauthorized use of deepfake images to harass and exploit women and girls. This achievement exemplifies what can be accomplished when we move beyond siloed discussions to unite on shared values and goals. Protecting women and girls from online abuse is just the beginning of our work.”

I will be focusing on advancing the Kids Online Safety Act to President Trump’s desk, which aims to hold Big Tech accountable for protecting innocent children from online dangers.”

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito: “I am proud to be an original cosponsor of the TAKE IT DOWN Act. This crucial legislation will protect victims of digital exploitation by making the online sharing of non-consensual explicit images illegal. A heartfelt thanks to @FLOTUS for her efforts in this critical matter and to @POTUS for signing it into law today.”

Sen. John Cornyn: “I was honored to join @POTUS and @FLOTUS at the @WhiteHouse today for the signing of the TAKE IT DOWN Act. This law aims to penalize predators and protect children from exploitation by requiring online platforms to remove explicit images, including AI-generated deepfakes, within 48 hours. It’s gratifying to see this commonsense legislation enacted.”

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto:

Sen. Roger Wicker: “The U.S. must lead in both AI innovation and accountability. Today, with the signing of the Take It Down Act, we take a step towards protecting individuals against AI deepfakes that often target families and children.”

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer: “I’m glad to see @POTUS sign the Take It Down Act into law. The rise of deepfake sexual exploitation has sadly accelerated with technological advancements, and thankfully, this law will hold offenders accountable while providing protection to the victims of these abhorrent acts.”

House Republican Conference Chair Lisa McClain: “In America, we will not stand for the exploitation of our children. This law is essential in protecting our families from becoming targets of digital predators. I am proud to have stood alongside President Trump during the signing of this important legislation. I look forward to continuing my support for his administration and the First Lady’s initiatives to hold accountable those who create harmful content while ensuring platforms uphold their responsibilities to keep our children safe in this digital age.”

Rep. Rick Allen: “✅ SIGNED INTO LAW: The Take It Down Act. As a grandfather of 14, I was honored to support this bill in @HouseCommerce and on the House floor. Thank you, @FLOTUS, for your tireless efforts to create a safer digital environment and protect our children from online exploitation.”

Rep. Brett Guthrie: “I want to recognize President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for their unwavering leadership, as well as the countless Americans affected by online exploitation for their courage. As the Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, I am proud that we have fulfilled our promise to advance this crucial legislation to protect victims of online exploitation. I would like to honor Eli Heacock and express my gratitude to his mother, Shannon Cronister-Heacock, for her bravery in sharing her son’s tragic story. The scourge of online sexual exploitation has disrupted the lives of innocent victims across our nation. The TAKE IT DOWN Act is a vital step forward in shielding children from the new threats that the 21st century presents to their well-being. This legislation owes its existence to the courage of families like the Heacocks, and it aims to prevent such tragedies from occurring again.”

Rep. Pat Harrigan: “A few weeks ago, I supported the TAKE IT DOWN ACT in the House. Today, it has become law! Justice is here for the victims, and a reckoning awaits those who believed they could evade accountability while preying on the vulnerable.”

Earlier this year, @FLOTUS came to Capitol Hill for a roundtable, which I was grateful to attend. We heard firsthand from teenagers whose lives had been shattered by malicious AI-generated pornographic images circulated on social media.
