President Trump made a controversial jab at Sen. Elizabeth Warren, using his well-known nickname “Pocahontas” during his speech to Congress on Tuesday night.
Warren, a Democrat from Massachusetts, continued to clap in support of providing military aid to Ukraine despite Trump’s criticism of Democrats for wanting to extend aid for another five years.
Trump singled out Warren in his speech, mocking her by saying, “Pocahontas says yes” in reference to her previous claims of Native American heritage.
Despite the taunt, Warren continued to clap enthusiastically and maintained a smile on her face.
Trump has been using the nickname “Pocahontas” for years in reference to Warren’s disputed Native American heritage claims.
During the speech, Trump criticized European allies for spending more on Russian fossil fuels than on aid to Ukraine, and praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his willingness to negotiate for peace.
Trump also mentioned receiving positive signals from Russia regarding peace efforts, and highlighted the ongoing conflict in Ukraine with Russian forces.
