At the Environmental Protection Agency Headquarters on Thursday, President Trump gathered utility companies, data center developers, and state officials to unveil a significant extension of his administration’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge. This unprecedented commitment aims to maintain America’s leadership in artificial intelligence without imposing financial burdens on households and businesses.

Here are the reactions:

Edison Electric Institute CEO Drew Maloney: “America’s electric companies collaborate daily with federal and state authorities to safeguard customers and drive innovation. Connecting data centers and significant energy loads to the grid responsibly benefits businesses with reliability while also serving the American public.”

Duke Energy CEO Harry Sideris: “Thank you, @POTUS and @SecretaryWright, for uniting industries to ensure America’s global dominance in AI while protecting energy consumers.”

Southern Company CEO Chris Womack: “This is a pivotal moment for the Southeast and the nation. AI and advanced technologies offer historic investment and economic growth opportunities. Southern Company prioritizes customers, and the President’s Pledge reinforces growth with energy future security while maintaining rate stability and reliability for those we serve. We commend President Trump for policies supporting American energy infrastructure.”

PPL Corporation CEO Vincent Sorgi: “The Ratepayer Protection Pledge aligns with our responsible growth strategy, ensuring large energy users, including data centers, pay their share of infrastructure costs. Economic growth and customer protection can coexist, as this pledge reflects.”

American Public Power Association CEO Scott Corwin: “We are proud to sign the Ratepayer Protection Pledge, aligning with our stance that utility customers should not shoulder the costs of data centers, emphasizing energy affordability and reliability for public power users.”

National Grid President Ben Wilson: “Growth and customer protection are not mutually exclusive. As electricity demand rises, we must ensure communities benefit while maintaining affordability and reliability. Strategic planning and infrastructure investments can enhance the grid and support economic growth.”

American Electric Power: “Responsible growth begins with protecting current customers. AEP’s operating companies have signed the Ratepayer Protection Pledge, affirming our commitment to manage electricity demand growth while keeping energy affordable and reliable.”

Tennessee Valley Authority: “We have endorsed the Trump Administration’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge, reinforcing our dedication to affordable and reliable energy for the 10 million people across seven states we serve.”

Indiana Michigan Power Co: “Indiana Michigan Power signed the White House’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge, reaffirming our commitment to customer benefit and growth without unfair burdens from serving large energy users. This pledge supports our ongoing approach as regional energy demand increases.”

Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company: “OGE Energy Corp. joined nationwide electric companies in signing the White House Ratepayer Protection Pledge, committing to shield our customers from increased costs associated with high-energy-demand consumers, like data centers, under OG&E’s proposed large-load tariff.”

America First Policy Institute: “Americans should not bear the financial burden of AI data centers. With the expanded Ratepayer Protection Pledge, all involved in building and powering data centers must cover their costs rather than passing them to families.”

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen: “Honored to join President Trump and other leaders for the Ratepayer Protection Pledge. America will triumph in the AI competition with China without imposing electricity costs on families. Both goals are achievable.”

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp: “We cannot afford to let China win the technological innovation race! Signing the Ratepayer Protection Pledge ensures we grow opportunities while safeguarding hardworking Americans’ finances. We’re proving this in Georgia.”

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry: “Winning the AI race will determine global power control, but not at American families’ expense. The Pledge demands tech companies cover power and infrastructure costs, not shift them to you.”

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox: “Utah embraces innovation, but not at the expense of families. Thank you, @POTUS, for holding data centers accountable and safeguarding ratepayers.”

Idaho Gov. Brad Little: “Proud to join President Trump today celebrating the Ratepayer Protection Pledge, ensuring energy reliability and low rates for Idahoans!”

Republican Governors Association: “Republican governors nationwide understand the AI boom should decrease power bills, not increase them. They support President Trump’s Ratepayer Protection pledge to prioritize American families.”

Sen. Rick Scott: “Great news! In April, @RogerMarshallMD and I supported President Trump’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge. Working families should not pay for data centers. Big tech must foot their bills!”

Sen. Katie Britt: “Data centers should cover their electricity costs, not hardworking Americans. I support @POTUS’s steps to protect ratepayers while maintaining our competitive edge over China and ensuring America’s leadership in technological advancement.”

Sen. Tommy Tuberville: “@POTUS is protecting American taxpayers from rising energy prices while benefiting from data center revenue. We will ensure data center funds enhance schools, support law enforcement, fund infrastructure, and improve life quality, ensuring Alabamians are not paying the bill.”

House Energy and Commerce Committee: “The Ratepayer Protection Pledge is a win for Americans, who shouldn’t face higher electricity costs due to new data centers.”

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Zeldin: “@EPA and @POTUS have expanded the Ratepayer Protection Pledge. America must win the AI race without burdening hardworking families. Big Tech must build and pay for their power, so your bill remains unchanged.”

Small Business Administration Administrator Kelly Loeffler: “President Trump ensures America’s global AI leadership, benefiting millions of small business owners who rely on AI to start, grow, and compete. The Ratepayer Protection Pledge provides benefits without new utility costs.”
