President Trump’s Trade Agenda Is Rebuilding the American Auto Industry – The White House

Ford Motor Company has revealed plans to move the production of its Lincoln models back to the United States, effectively ending imports from China and generating thousands of jobs for Americans. This announcement is a testament to President Donald J. Trump’s America First trade policy, which aims to enhance domestic manufacturing, safeguard American jobs, and strengthen the nation’s supply chains.

Ford CEO Jim Farley stated clearly in a comment: “We made this decision as soon as the policy of the Administration was set.”

Ford is among a growing list of automakers broadening their operations in the U.S. and relocating production back to American soil:

  • Toyota is allocating $3.6 billion to transfer Tacoma production from Mexico to its San Antonio, Texas, plant, which will add 2,000 quality jobs and double the size of the facility.
  • Honda is manufacturing its next-generation Civic in Indiana instead of Mexico to evade tariffs, ensuring an annual U.S. output of around 210,000 units.
  • General Motors is investing $4 billion to relocate production of the Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox from Mexico to plants in Tennessee and Kansas, while also moving Buick Envision production from China to Kansas, significantly increasing domestic manufacturing capacity.
  • Mercedes-Benz is investing $4 billion to boost SUV production at its Tuscaloosa, Alabama, facility, attributing this move to tariff influences.
  • Volvo Trucks has committed hundreds of millions of dollars to start producing the new VNR regional hauler at its New River Valley plant in Dublin, Virginia.
  • Stellantis is making its largest single investment in the U.S. in a century to boost domestic production by 50%, introducing five new vehicles, and creating over 5,000 jobs across facilities in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.
  • Nissan is enhancing capacity at its Tennessee plant, one of North America’s largest, by adding new models and maintaining thousands of American jobs.
  • Hyundai Motor Group is increasing annual output at its Metaplant America in Ellabell, Georgia, as part of extensive multi-billion-dollar U.S. investments designed to produce most vehicles sold domestically.
  • Rolls-Royce is spending $75 million to enhance engine production at its Aiken, South Carolina, site, and has recently finished a $24 million expansion of its Mankato, Minnesota, plant.

President Trump’s America First agenda is achieving significant success against years of offshoring. Businesses that previously sought cheaper labor abroad are now channeling investments into U.S. facilities, resulting in vehicles produced in America, by American workers, for American consumers.
