President Donald J. Trump is visiting Michigan today, specifically the General Motors Proving Ground in Milford, to celebrate the significant revival of American auto manufacturing during his leadership. Since assuming office, President Trump has driven a revival in the automotive sector, bringing production back to the U.S., restoring jobs in factories, and boosting vehicle manufacturing in Michigan.

Record Investments. Record Sales. American Jobs.

Michigan is attracting tens of billions in fresh capital and creating thousands of high-paying jobs, thanks to companies reacting to President Trump’s America First strategies:

  • General Motors is investing $6 billion in U.S. manufacturing, including a major expansion at its Orion Township assembly plant, with plans to continue bringing production back to the U.S. Additionally, GM is adding an overtime shift at its Flint plant due to increased demand for pickup trucks.
  • Ford Motor Company is investing $3 billion in its BlueOval Battery Park in Marshall, generating 1,700 new jobs. The company is also adding a third shift at its Dearborn Truck Plant as the F-150 continues to lead global pickup truck sales.
  • Stellantis is investing $388 million to establish a state-of-the-art “megahub” in Van Buren Township, $140 million to expand its Detroit plant, and $100 million to increase production at its Warren plant.
  • Detroit Diesel is bringing back laid-off workers and implementing a third shift.

The positive effects are already evident in showrooms. The year 2025 was the strongest for new vehicle sales since 2019. Ford achieved its best annual U.S. sales in six years. General Motors reported rising overall volume and its best SUV performance in decades. Jeep sales increased for the first time since 2018.

America First Tariffs Bring Production — and Paychecks — Home

The growth is directly linked to President Trump’s decisive tariffs that favor American workers and production:

  • President Trump imposed a 25% tariff on passenger vehicles and light trucks manufactured outside the U.S.
  • He signed an order incentivizing domestic assembly by easing the impact of parts tariffs on vehicles built in the U.S.
  • He extended a 25% tariff to medium- and heavy-duty trucks made abroad.

A Broader Manufacturing Boom Across Michigan

Michigan is experiencing significant investments in advanced manufacturing, energy, aerospace, and technology sectors:

  • OpenAI, Oracle, and Related Digital are investing over $7 billion in a major data center campus in Saline Township.
  • Pratt Industries committed $5 billion to reindustrialize America, bringing thousands of jobs to Michigan.
  • Corning is expanding with a $1.5 billion investment, adding over 400 advanced manufacturing jobs.
  • Chobani is investing $567 million to expand its La Colombe plant, creating numerous new jobs.
  • GE Aerospace is investing $60 million to enhance aircraft engine and avionics production at its Michigan facilities.
  • Saginaw Control & Engineering is investing $50 million to expand in Thomas Township.
  • Adrian Steel is investing $43.4 million to significantly expand its operations.
  • American Rheinmetall is investing $31.7 million in its Michigan facilities.
