Reinforcing America’s Backbone: Infrastructure for a Resilient Future

The critical infrastructure of our Nation is not just a collection of systems; it is the very foundation of every American’s daily life. It underpins our national security, supports economic stability, and ensures public safety. As we observe Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month, we rededicate ourselves to enhancing the strength, modernity, and resilience of America’s systems and networks.

Upon my return to office, I promptly signed an Executive Order aimed at revitalizing American energy sources, thereby restoring our Nation’s ability to produce essential resources that fuel our economy. By reaffirming our energy leadership, we are not only rebuilding supply chains and bolstering our industrial base but also reinforcing the critical infrastructure that protects our country. This initiative is about lowering costs and generating well-paying jobs for American workers—an investment in both our economy and our people.

As we work on modernizing the pillars of American strength, we must also focus on the digital infrastructure that will shape our future. The United States finds itself in a pivotal race for global dominance in the technological frontier of our era: artificial intelligence (AI). Success in this arena promises to usher in a new chapter of human progress, economic competitiveness, and national security for all Americans.

My Administration is adopting a comprehensive, whole-of-government strategy to secure victory in the AI race, emphasizing innovation acceleration, AI infrastructure creation, and leadership in international diplomacy and security. Since my reinstitution, American AI firms have unveiled infrastructure projects amounting to over $400 billion—more than what was invested in the Apollo Program and the Manhattan Project combined. We are also rapidly advancing next-generation AI data centers while modernizing electrical grids and communication networks to support this extraordinary expansion. With the First Lady’s support, who passionately advocates for equipping students and workers for this technological transformation, we are entering a new era of American creativity and global leadership.

In every sector critical to our prosperity—be it energy, transportation, communication, or defense—America’s foundational infrastructure is being fortified and revitalized. These assets, systems, and networks represent the backbone of our country’s success, and my Administration is dedicated to enhancing each one. We aim to empower States and municipalities to make informed infrastructure decisions that not only bolster resilience but also provide tangible benefits to taxpayers. By employing sensible, risk-informed strategies, we are constructing new infrastructure, modernizing existing systems, and fostering innovations that protect our citizens, energize our economy, and maintain our status as the world’s most advanced, reliable, and resilient nation.
