Bitcoin (BTC-USD) kicked off the trading day on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at $64,602.32, marking a 0.9% increase from the previous day’s opening price. By 9:40 a.m. ET, the price of bitcoin had dipped slightly to $64,216.91.

In comparison, Ethereum (ETH-USD) started the day at $1,906.96 on August 6, 2026, showing a 2.1% rise from Wednesday’s opening price. However, the price of ethereum slipped to $1,901.84 by mid-morning.

Both bitcoin and ethereum began the day at their highest levels of the week and are currently displaying positive month-over-month gains. This upward trend is attributed to investors showing more interest in risk-based investments amidst ongoing negotiations in Iran to partially open the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, a lackluster July jobs report from the ADP is contributing to firmer prices, as these factors decrease the likelihood of a rate hike following the Federal Reserve’s meeting next month.

Looking back, the price of bitcoin has shown a 0.9% increase compared to the previous day’s opening price. Here’s how the opening bitcoin price has fluctuated over the past week, month, and year:

– One week ago: +1.1%
– One month ago: +1.7%
– One year ago: -43.4%

On the other hand, ethereum’s price has increased by 2.1% from the previous day’s open. Here’s a look at how the opening ethereum price has changed over the past week, month, and year:

– One week ago: -0.1%
– One month ago: +7%
– One year ago: -47.2%
