Trans Activists Challenge Women’s Spaces at Brighton Conference
In a striking display of protest, a group of trans activists vandalized the venue for Europe’s largest feminist conference, scheduled to unfold this weekend in Brighton, UK. This act of defiance included splashes of purple paint and shattered windows, leaving a clear message ahead of the FiLiA conference.
Notably, the group Bash Back took to social media to embrace their actions, posting a video that depicted masked individuals defacing the conference site.

Approximately 2,400 delegates are set to attend the FiLiA conference, which aims to highlight issues such as misogyny and violence against women. JK Rowling, a prominent advocate for women’s rights amid rising trans activism tensions, amplified her support by retweeting journalist Julie Bindel’s commentary on the incident.
The Telegraph reported:
“Julie Bindel, a speaker at the event, tweeted: ‘Trans activists have smashed one of the large front windows of the Brighton Centre—the venue where 2,500 feminists are meeting to discuss male violence and misogyny. Why can’t EVERYONE see this movement for what it is?’”

This morning, trans activists gathered outside the Brighton Centre, holding flags and signs in protest. Lisa-Marie Taylor, the chief executive of FiLiA, expressed that the intention behind this protest was to undermine women’s right to gather and discuss their own lives. “This conference serves as a vital platform for amplifying women’s voices, and we encourage anyone wishing to join us in good faith,” she asserted.
This kind of violent direct action is disgraceful. It is designed to intimidate people—in this case, women—into silence, and it must not be allowed to happen with impunity. https://t.co/5lg5SDKz5W

A spokesperson for Bash Back claimed that FiLiA is the host of “some of the most vicious transphobia in modern pop-politics.” They elaborated, stating, “While FiLiA speakers claim to protect women’s spaces, they fail to recognize that their rhetoric endangers the very autonomy and self-determination of women, leading to the discriminatory violence that tragically impacts trans lives.”
