Rajon Rondo, the former NBA player, found himself in hot water earlier this year when he was arrested by the police. Body cam footage obtained by TMZ Sports showed officers discussing his NBA career after pulling him over for not having a license plate properly secured on his Tesla.
The video captured the moment when the cops recognized Rondo and talked about his time on the basketball court. One officer mentioned, “He’s a former basketball player. He played for a bunch of NBA teams.” Despite the casual conversation, Rondo was still arrested after the police found a small amount of weed, drug paraphernalia, and a gun in his car.
During the stop, one officer directly asked Rondo about his NBA career, to which Rondo confirmed and revealed how long he had played. The officer was clearly impressed, exclaiming, “Wow!” However, Rondo’s fame did not prevent his arrest, as he faced charges related to the items found in his vehicle.
The 38-year-old athlete, who last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season, faced three charges following the incident. However, Rondo managed to reach a plea deal with prosecutors in September to resolve the case. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of unlawful carrying of a handgun, and the other charges were dropped. Rondo was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but the sentence was suspended, allowing him to serve probation instead if he stays out of trouble.
Overall, the incident served as a reminder that even well-known figures like Rondo are not above the law. Despite his past success in the NBA, he still had to face the consequences of his actions.
