A disturbing video has emerged online showing Pakistan’s security forces forcefully pushing a man off a stack of shipping containers during a demonstration in Islamabad. According to a report by The BBC, the incident took place on Tuesday when thousands of supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan gathered to demand his release from prison. Following the incident, top aides of Mr. Khan condemned the act of police brutality and called off the protests. The man, who had been praying on top of a container, was approached by armed officers who then pushed him off from a height equivalent to three storeys, as reported by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The video footage shows the man praying on top of a 25-foot-tall tower of shipping containers that were set up to obstruct the protesters. Security forces can be seen surrounding him and then pushing him off the edge.

The current condition of the man remains unknown, as per a report by The Independent. The PTI officials are still investigating the matter.

Recent days in Pakistan have been marked by protests, resulting in the deaths of at least six individuals, including security forces and civilians. The police in Islamabad confirmed the arrest of 600 protesters following the crackdown on Tuesday, bringing the total number of arrests to over 1,000 since the start of the protests.

Imran Khan’s party initiated a march towards Islamabad demanding his release from prison. The protesters vowed not to leave the capital until Mr. Khan, who is facing multiple criminal charges, was freed. However, the protest was met with resistance from the police, who used tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Following the government’s crackdown, the protests have been temporarily suspended, as stated by PTI. The party accused the government forces of launching a violent assault on peaceful protesters and appealed for an investigation into the alleged killings of party workers. The law enforcement defended their actions, claiming that the protests had turned into acts of terrorism.

Imran Khan has faced various legal troubles, including allegations of bribery and anti-terrorism charges. Despite the challenges, his party continues to advocate for his release and justice.
